<p>In part 1 of the Basic Bodybuilding Nutrition Program I covered proper nutrient intake of protein, carbohydrates, fat, and water. And the amounts of each that you should be consuming daily based on your individual needs and fitness goals. In part 2 I&#8217;m going to outline some practical ways that you can fit a healthy eating plan into your busy lifestyle. </p>
<p>The whole idea of eating 6 well-balanced meals per day is by no means a new concept. Most of you who are reading this already have a good idea of how you should be eating. But for the majority of people the main excuse is they don&#8217;t have the time to eat properly. </p>
<p>But this is just not the case. Eating a &#8220;junk-food&#8221; diet probably takes just as much or more time then it does to eat a healthy diet. At lunch time getting in your car and heading on over to the fast food joint, waiting in line at the drive through, and then heading back to work takes a lot more time then if you had your food prepared in advance and ready to eat. </p>
<p>The key to successfully following a healthy bodybuilding nutrition program is planning ahead. When you cook your food always prepare for several meals. It doesn&#8217;t take any more time to cook larger quantities of food then it does to cook smaller amounts of food for just one meal. Purposely plan to have left overs that you can re-heat in the microwave, this saves time and makes it easier to have quick nutritious meals on hand. I&#8217;ll often grill several steaks at a time, cook several chicken breasts at a time, bake several potatoes at a time, cook up a large pot of rice, etc. </p>
<p>A Well Stocked Kitchen </p>
<p>In order to prepare and eat healthy nutritious meals you need to have the necessary kitchen supplies. Get yourself a good set of pots, non-stick frying pans, measuring cups and spoons, food scale, a good set of kitchen knives, blender, kitchen grill (such as the George Foreman grill), electric kettle, good spatulas and other cooking utensils like tongs, ladel spoons, etc. These are the basic tools that you&#8217;ll need to prepare your meals.</p>
<p>For packing and storing your food you will also need to get some plastic food storage containers. Get a half dozen smaller sized containers for packing individual meals. And also get a few bigger containers that you can use for storing left overs in the refrigerator. Make sure to get good containers with tight fitting lids so they will not pop open easily.</p>
<p>Get a couple shaker bottles for mixing up protein drinks and also get an insulated lunch bag or small hand held cooler for taking your food with you to work. You will be able to get all of these kitchen supplies at places like Wal-Mart for a fair price.</p>

<p>If your blood pressure is 140/90 or higher, you need to get it down! The good news is that many of the steps you can take are painless, and some are downright enjoyable.</p>
<p>To complete this How-To you will need:</p>
<p>Potassium-rich foods<br />
Red wine<br />
A pedometer<br />
Dark chocolate<br />
A pet<br />
Spirituality</p>
<p>Step 1: Eat less sodium and salt</p>
<p>Consume less sodium, which contributes to hypertension. It&#8217;s not enough to just put away the saltshaker &#8212; check food labels as well. Many prepared foods, like canned soup and frozen meals, are loaded with sodium.</p>
<p>Step 2: Eat potassium-rich foods</p>
<p>Eat more baked potatoes &#8212; with the skin &#8212; plus other potassium-rich foods like acorn squash, bananas, orange juice, and halibut. Dozens of studies prove that a potassium-rich diet helps combat the blood pressure-raising damage of a high sodium diet.</p>
<p>Step 3: Drink red wine</p>
<p>Drink one glass of red wine every day, but limit yourself to just one glass.</p>
<p>Step 4: Lose weight</p>
<p>Lose weight if you need to. Obesity has been linked to hypertension. Track your steps with a pedometer. People who use them walk up to 2,000 steps more, which can help them reduce their weight and their blood pressure.</p>
<p>Step 5: Get a pet</p>
<p>Get a pet. Not only does having one lower blood pressure, petting them has been shown to increase levels of the feel-good hormones dopamine and serotonin in their owners.</p>
<p>Step 6: Eat chocolate</p>
<p>Eat some chocolate every day. The trick is to keep the portion small &#8212; say, bite-size &#8212; and make sure you&#8217;re munching dark chocolate made mostly from cocoa solids. It should taste a little bitter.</p>
<p>Step 7: Become a hugger</p>
<p>Become more touchy-feely. Research indicates that people who hug and hold hands are calmer.</p>
<p>Step 8: Start praying</p>
<p>Start praying. One study found that people who attend weekly religious services have lower blood pressure than those who don&#8217;t attend at all.</p>

2. Avoid nutrient deficient foods, like many processed foods. Avoid dangerous foods: meat, dairy and eggs.<br />
3. Exercise regularly, preferably an hour a day.</p>
<p>Counting calories is a tried and true method for weight loss. But in order to stay healthy, those calories should come from healthy, whole foods. And in order for your heart and lungs to stay healthy and your body to look toned, you need to exercise, too.</p>
<p>I know this from experience and research. I recommend reading:<br />

- The Thrive Diet<br />
- Eat More, Weigh Less<br />
- Fit or Fat</p>
<p>And no, I&#8217;m not perfect. I don&#8217;t exercise enough and I still eat too many processed foods. But I am a healthy weight and I haven&#8217;t got heart disease, diabetes, or cancer. I am a vegan.</p>
