You are right! but …
You are right! but I live in India, you find street vendors occupying the sidewalks and because of bumpy roads & heavy vehicular traffic here in most of the states it is very unsafe to walk on roads. So walking on treadmill is a better option for me.
Your target Heart …
Your target Heart rate is 197, so you do 75 % of 197? do you maintain this heart rate at 197 for the entire hour?. and do you manually take your pulse or using a heart rate monitor or rely on the reading on the elliptical machine? which can be quite misleading?
@brushfour, …
@brushfour, continued… Because the readout in cardio machines can be innaccurate too, right? I do not have a heart rate monitor, so I cannot measure the exact number of calories and if my pulse reaches my target heart zone which is 60-85 per cent of 196.
Hi! brushfour! …
Hi! brushfour! thank you for responding to my comment to you. Sorry for the delay. I weigh 197 lbs now, I used to weigh 212 lbs when I joined the gym (Aug 21,2009). I do cardiovascular exercises three time per week. the rest three days go to circuit training. on an average I burn 420 calories in a one hour cardio session which is 1 hour. so 1200+ calories per week. I have no clue how much I burn doing circuit training. Also I cannot be sure if those 420 calories I burn are the actual calories
The effect of the …
The effect of the walking on the diet plus the actual calories burned, in 45 days will probably knock off close to 3 lbs of fat, and you’ll notice it on your waist big time. It’s a low stress, low impact, underrated, purely aerobic (with the presence of oxygen), calorie and fat burning activity. As much as I like lifting/HIIT cardio and low calorie healthy eating, I don’t think I could stay truly lean without it. When you see how lean 4 months of walking will get you, you’ll come to love it!
Walk on natural …
Walk on natural ground, hills etc., you’ll burn more calories then if you walk on flat concrete. Flat concrete walking is still very good. Take a waist measurement. THEN, (keeping everything else the same) walk for 1 hour every other day for the next 6 weeks. Not speed walking, just a normal walk. Enjoy yourself, put on your favorite music and hit a place that you love to walk. Take in the scenery. The more you walk,..the more you’ll want to walk. After 6 weeks, take another waist measurement.
Walking is good for …
Walking is good for the digestive system. It helps speed the repair of muscles. I’m a HEAVY weight training athlete. It’s not too taxing on the muscles or joints so you can do it without tiring your muscles further. You get oxygen to the brain and it’s good way to do some good thinking.”Never trust any idea you came up with sitting down.” Your body has a natural appetite control mechanism; there’s nothing like a long walk to get it reset. You’ll more likely desire less calories if you walk often.
Myfavgeets, if you …
Myfavgeets, if you weight more..say 200 lbs, you’ll burn a few more calories per hour of walking then someone who weighs 125 lbs let say. I believe that I burn around 90 calories per mile. I walk about 2.5 -3.0 miles per hour. So I figure I burn around 250 calories per hour of walking. I walk about 4-6 hours per week. SO, that’s about 1000-1200 calories burned per week, maybe a few more. Probably about 5000 calories per month; 60,000 calories per year or more, which = over 17 lbs of fat!
i didnt understand …
i didnt understand the last part of your comment.
I am a 23 year old …
I am a 23 year old male and I love the elliptical. It’s much easier on the knees, and you go at your own pace as opposed to being at the mercy of your set speed on the treadmill. The analytical side of me loves it, because you can really fine tune your variables. You set the duration, resistance, and you can watch your heart rate and speed to know exactly how you’re doing. I can get on an elliptical and do an hour at 75%MHR and keep my heart rate stable whereas running it’s jumping all over.
I do Cardio on the …
I do Cardio on the treadmill, elliptical, rower, arm ergometer & stationary bike, does doing cardio on these machine make use of my HIPS are you suggested?
Hi! brushfour. I …
Hi! brushfour. I burn around 120-130 calories in 20 mins briskwalking + light jogging on the treadmill. how many calories do you burn in the same time? Same question to everyone else, how much calories do you burn in 20 mins on treadmill?

I’m a BIG believer in outdoor cardio! I can walk on a treadmill for 20 minutes before I get antsy. I can walk or hike outdoors for HOURS and never get tired of the challenge and the scenery. The Great Outdoors is a Great way to get lean!

LOL!,…As I’m reading your post while sitting with my daily cup of Joe.
thank you, this one help me alot.
What you could do is a week before, start playing music around 4/5 in the morning. The first day make it very soft then each day increase it in volume. Then after 7 days the family should sub-consciously be getting used to noise in the morning. Then after that instead of music, run on the treadmill
How old is your blog? Great work getting such a good reader base.
