Is the 40/40/20 diet good to use for burning fat and building muscle?
I am using the 40/40/20 diet:
i weigh 205 pounds
a little above average bodyfat
if following the ratio of 40% protein 40%carbs and 20% good fats can i achieve burning fat and building muscle?
I lift weights every day (3 different workout splits) and plan on running cardio for 15-20 minutes three times a week.
Actually yes, that’s a good plan, especially for lifters. The carbs produce insulin, especially after a workout, which then helps the muscles uptake protein and grow. The good fats help the nervous system function better (essential for athletes), as well as helps the body produce and metabolize certain vitamins, etc.
I more or less follow the same routine as you and have had good results, though I don’t work out every day. I allow myself a day or two a week to recover, and use those as cardio days.
Be sure to get plenty of rest too, and drink lots of water.
Good luck!

Diet does not build muscle regardless of what ratios you choose. Also you cannot selectively burn body fat before first consuming muscle glycogen. Your workout seems good for toning muscle, although I would recommend cardio more often and anaerobic less (give your body some healing time), especially if you want to lose weight.
You must be around 6’0 if your slightly overweight. Overall, I think 40/40/20 is a good ratio as long as you don’t get light-headed in your workouts (decreased carbs), because it is better to have a more intense workout than to limit carbs if this is the problem.

Yes, it is good. That’s my goal every day. Along with this, try to spread it out over 5 to 6 meals during the day.
Two other things you need to remember is to get plenty of rest and drink lots of water.
