Will I all my weight back if I switch from Atkins diet to a different diet?
I’m using the Atkins diet currently, but want to know, when I reach or become near my goal weight, if I switch to another diet that allows more carbs, will I gain weight? I exercise 3-5 times per week for an hour to two hours and have maintained the same weight for about 5 years now. Assume the diet I switch to is a reasonable, balanced diet (food pyramid), and that I will not be irresponsible by binging or the like. Gaining water weight is of no concern, simply whether or not fat gain would occur from my body immediately leaving ketosis.
I agree with the above poster, why would you want to switch?
It would depend on how your body reacts to carbs. Many of us consider the food pyramid to be neither sensible nor balanced, however if your body can manage grains and other carbs then as long as you are eating "sensibly" and keep exercising I’d think you wouldn’t gain much more than "water weight".
But if your body is sensitive to carbs, then you just might gain it all back.

As long as you keep your water intake up you should do fine… frequently, humans think they are hungry when they are really thirsty so they eat food, get full than don’t drink enough water so not only did t hey not drink enough water to begin with, but they just ate a lot of food which needs water in order to be digested properly. Keep in mind you MUST eat whole grain carbs. These are high in fiber and fiber keeps your digestive system free flowing, smooth, fast, and effective. When your system becomes slow and your dehydrated, it becomes difficult to digest food and the food sits in your body—> giving it time to turn to fat. I believe that waking up in the morning having a glass of water and some whole grain toast with organic butter on it will not make you gain weight and will make you healthier because your feeding yourself real unpricessed nutrients.

Okay, by saying that you want to change to a diet that allows more carbs tells me that you did not read the book.Ketosis is primarily during the first phase which is a minimum of 2 weeks. It is natural and not scary at all. As you begin to increase your carbs you will almost immediately knock yourself out of ketosis. So as you move to phase 2 OWL ( ongoing Weight loss ),you can kiss ketosis goodbye. it is so temporary and isn’t the main goal of the diet. The Atkins diet is 4 diets in one. Eventually you will considerably increase your carbs on this diet but I strongly suggest that you read the information. If your goal is to get off of the Atkins diet, why are you on it?
