Atkins Diet Quick Hits – How do I start?
I am starting a new series of videos based upon the questions or comments I have received either privately or in the comments section. Each of these videos will be targeted to answering that question or issue in short, less than 3 minutes video. I am hoping that these videos can be used as a Frequently Asked Question about the Atkins Diet or Low Carb in general.
In this video, I deal with a question I receive often. How do I start or restart the diet? I come up with three specific recommendations:
1.) Get the junk out of your house. There is no reason to start with cravings staring you in the face.
2.) Get and read the book. The book I mean is either the low carb book of choice or Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002).
3.) Hit the low carb recipe sites, like Linda’s Low Carb, and browse the Induction friendly recipes. Make a menu for the week and go shopping.
The last half of this viewer’s question was how long to do the diet. I somewhat answered this already in the last video, but my answer is always “forever. There is no “after” on the Atkins Diet.”
I hope you like this series of upcoming videos.

That’s just a quick menu off the top of my head for dinner items for a week.
99.99 percent of my …
99.99 percent of my diet should be able to be purchased from any grocery store. Maybe once in 2 months I might have something difficult to find wherever, low carb Da Vinci SF syrup. Check out my eating video and breakfast idea video for some ideas. The key thing is memorize the Acceptable Foods List, and shop the exterior of the store – - veggies, dairy for cheese, SC, Cream, meat or butcher area, eggs, salad dressing, and frozen food aisle for veggies out of season.
Wondering if you …
Wondering if you can help, I do not have any specialty food stores where I live and grocery shopping for Atkins is hard. Do you have a grocery list for stores like Winn-Dixie, Publix, or even walmart? A list of meals made from these stores would be wonderful =)
Check out my video …
Check out my video on how to ensure the best weigh in possible. Yes, you can add weight even on Induction. Sometimes for reason like sodium intake, or increased water intake, or even sometimes for no reason. The body is just weird sometimes. Only you can tell if it was for cause or not.
I have been on …
I have been on Induction now for about 5 days. Initially I was losing small amounts each day. Then on the fifth day I put on 400g. I know that I shouldn’t weigh myself every day but I find it very motivational. Is it normal to gain weight even on induction?
I know I responded …
I know I responded to this in the pm, but those life changes are difficult to get through without adding the weight especially when correct food choices aren’t always the easiest or cheapest to make. The good news is you see the error, and are back on the right road.
but once I went to …
but once I went to college it really did not matter, i was eating all the wrong foods and drinking sodas everyday. But, I wanted to ask you a question in your inbox.
I did not do the …
I did not do the introduction for only 14 days. I continued it for the whole entire time until I lost the desired weight. I first went on the atkins diet the summer before I went to te 10th grade. One I went to college ans stayed on campus I gained the weight back plus more in about 2-3years. I stopped because the media said it was unhealthy. BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER. Now I am 23 and about to start my diet again. I weigh 250 pounds, ridiculous. Atkins Diet change my metabolism
McDonald’s is just …
McDonald’s is just a tip of the iceberg or a symptom of the problem. It’s what people eat that is at the heart of the problem. If you bring in the junk into your house as an ingredient, you will become just as fat as going out and eating elsewhere. Potatoes and sugars are just as damaging from your house as elsewhere, and while you may not put the addl chemicals or preservatives and use higher quality ingredients, your body reacts to the base macro-nutrients the same way.
I hardly eat fast …
I hardly eat fast food, ive only had mcdonalds like once in my life… If you lay off that crap ull be in shape just eat homemade food
I wouldn’t say it …
I wouldn’t say it is any harder than any other way of eating as the appetite suppression helps you eat correctly. That said this is NOT a weight loss diet. It is way of eating or living, so if you are not interested in changing the way you eat or your relationship to food long term, this is not the diet for you.
Short term fixes only breed short term results.

is this a hard diet and is it dangerous to be starved of carbs ooo and i dont get it how is it possible that u can eat high calorie foods like chicken steak and bacon
Absolutely – a …
Absolutely – a ketogenic diet can provide dramatic IMMEDIATE help to those with diabetes. I had so much information on this topic that I ended up making two videos on it.
Good video. Dear …
Good video. Dear Bowulf basically you should mention that if someone wants to try to reverse or control diabetes they have no choice but to use a Ketogenic diet and only eat low carb vegetables.
I was making a …
I was making a generlisation of all diets not just the Atkins diet. All a 14 year old should be doing is riding a bike, playing football, eating a bit more fruit and veg and staying away from excess in order to be healthy, not completely changing their diet whilst still in a state of metabolic development, it’s a well known fact that doing so can cause real health problems when you get older. All I’m saying is always consult a profesional before you take the plunge.
Wow, that’s …
Wow, that’s insightful comment, and I am glad I have your concern. However, I can assure you that your concerns are ungrounded. .
Have a nice day!

you kinda look like a ADD person , is it bcos of the atkins diet gone wrong ??!!
Dieting with …
Dieting with caloric deficiency can certainly be damaging, but eating right is hardly going to damage their growth. “trust me, certain fats are VITAL for you at your age” which certain fats are eliminated on the Atkins Diet, a diet that encourages the intake of fat?
There is no reason to keep encouraging someone to eat junk (added refined sugars, HFCS, white bread) because they are young. These products do nothing for one’s health. No one is ever too young to learn a healthy lifestyle.
No, at 14 you are …
No, at 14 you are still growing. Aside from eating smart and lots of excersize I would strongly urge you not to do ANY dieting unless posed with real health problems. I say this coming from a medical background, trust me, certain fats are VITAL for you at your age. Worry about your weight when you turn 20 and remember to ALWAYS see a doctor before starting a diet (especially atkins) Believe me, dieting can be very damaging at a young age if not properly informed of the risks and side effects.
Yes, it is, but I …
Yes, it is, but I recommend starting at the OWL phase rather than Induction. Check out my Atkins Diet Is it for kids and teens video. You might not need or should do the 20g per ketogenic levels, but you can certainly do the carb conscious latter phases.
im 14 is the aktins …
im 14 is the aktins good for young people ¿
I agree – some …
I agree – some people should not do low carb. (Ones with no carb senstivity, people not looking to make lifestyle change) It just doesn’t agree with some people’s choices, and they would be better served elsewhere. That said, I think all people could stand to reduce the excess added sugar in their diet without detriment.
Good luck!
Bowulf, been …
Bowulf, been looking thru your vids and now I’m motivated to get back into the lo-carb. I’m a big dud, about 2 metres tall (6’6″) and around 135kg (300 pounds). My ideal weight is 100 to 110kg. Congrats on your success and on motivating others. One thing I would like to say is that lo-carb is not for everyone – just as trying to eat “everything in moderation” doesn’t work for some of us either. All I can say is that it is by far the easiest and most effective diet that I have ever followed.
